Balik ke masa lalu di hampir penghujung tahun 90an, tepatnya tahun 1998. Usiaku masih 15 tahun dan sedang asik-asiknya belajar di bangku SMP.  Sekolahku disana hanya ada di kecamatan, sementara aku tinggal di desa yang cukup terpencil. Sehingga status bersekolah sampai tingkat SMP bisa dikatakan sesuatu yang dianggap hebat. Kami sering diajari bagaimana susahnya mencari uang. Orang tua kami terkadang men-camkan anak-anaknya untuk bersekolah dengan baik, tanpa harus menuntut ini dan itu.

Sebagai anak tentu aku manut dengan nasihat orang tua, walau terkadang muncul keinginan untuk mengajukan sesuatu. Seperti, “Bu, pengen aku dibelikan motor, kan malu temen2 ngeledekin berangkat sekolah jalan kaki”. Dipikir lagi itu tidak baik. Tidak baik menuntut sesuatu pada orang tua, yang belum tentu mampu untuk mengabulkannya.

Namun, yang namanya orang tua terkadang memiliki six sense, indra ke enam untuk memahami hati dan perasaan anaknya. Ibulah yang pertama kali melihat sinyal kalau aku butuh sesuatu untuk mempermudah pergi dan pulang sekolah. Tidak hanya itu, Ibu juga tahu kalau aku sering menghayalkan sepeda baru, seperti milik anak tetangga sebelah. Waktu itu sedang booming sepeda merek federal, sepeda yang terkesan macho dan memang teruntuk laki-laki. Di bawah sadel terbentang pipa besi bulat memanjang sampai ke stang. Kemudian giginya bergergi dan bertingkat-tingkat. Aku sebut itu Sepeda Gigi.

Dan, rupa-rupanya Ibu teramat sayang padaku. Dibelikannya aku sepeda dari hasil menjual emas miliknya. Entah apa yang ada dipikiran ibu, aku tahu ibu hanya memiliki beberapa emas, tidak banyak. Sementara harga sepeda waktu itu sudah terbilang mahal, sekitar 70 ribuan. Tahun ‘98 uang 70 ribu mungkin kalau di konversi ke nilai sekarang bisa 400 ribuan, sesuai dengan harga sepeda yang sejenis pada saat ini.

Sejak saat itu hadir dirumahku sepeda gagah yang ibu belikan untukku. Pulang dan pergi ke sekolah tak lupa aku naiki.
